Summer Camps 2008
We will offered the following summer camps for middle and high school students in 2008. We had 167 students attend. The dates were:
June 2-6th RoboCup Junior (one for over 14 and one 10-14)
June 9-13 rising 7-9th PicoCrickets and Scratch
June 16-20 rising 10-12th Alice, LEGO NXT, and Media Computation in Python
June 23-27 rising 7-9th Alice and LEGO NXT
July 7-11 rising 7-9th PicoCrickets and Scratch
July 14-18 rising 10-12th Alice, LEGO NXT, and Media Computation in Python
July 21-25 rising 7-9th Alice and LEGO NXT

Camp Descriptions
RoboCupJr
Would you like to create a robot that can win a dance competition? Would you like to create a robot that can search for victims and navigate around obstacles? These are just two of the events at RoboCup Jr. which is an international competition that was held at Georgia Tech in the summer of 2007. While you won't get to go to this years competition in this camp you will build and program LEGO NXT robots for an end of camp competition like the RoboCup Jr competition. PicoCrickets
Would you like to play music with a pickle? Would you like to test how fast you react to sound and light? Would you like to make a sculpture that responds when you clap your hands? PicoCrickets will let you do all this and more! A PicoCricket kit is an arts and crafts kit for the digital age. For more information see http://picocricket.com/.
Scratch
Would you like to create a stick figure that dances to music? Would you like to write a story and use 2D animation to tell it? Would you like to create a 2D game that uses your picture? How about creating a game that helps Harry Potter catch the snitch? You can upload your creations to a web site and share them. Alice
Would you like to be the director of a movie? You can control the characters in your movie and how they interact. You can control the camera angles. You can even create a 3D game. Alice is free software from CMU that will let you make 3D movies and games. For more information on Alice see http:www.alice.org.

LEGO NXT
Would you like to build and program LEGO robots that can play music, navigate a course on the floor, dance, follow a black line, avoid obstacles, push objects out of a ring, and play tag? For more information on LEGO NXT robots see http://mindstorms.lego.com/.

Media Computation in Python
Would you like to take a picture of yourself in front of a greenscreen and then write a program in Python to make it look like you are on the moon? Or show off your creativity by creating an image collage? You can do this with Media Computation using Python. Python is a free computer language that is growing in popularity and is used by many companies including Google.
