This week's theme is art and movement using LEGO WeDo and Scratch. Scratch is free software from MIT that lets you create interactive art, animations, music, and games. LEGO WeDo kits contain a motor, a tilt sensor, and a distance sensor as well as LEGO blocks. You can make all sorts of cool things like a top spinner, a ball kicker that kicks whenever a ball gets close, or a plane that controls a Scratch plane. You will learn about responding to events, variables, and loops.
Objectives
Students will Stamp and Pen tools in Scratch to create visual art that responds to linear directions and reacts to sensor input.
Students will identify and Use Variables to manipulate Scratch and WeDo motors to create visual art.
Students will use sound and distance input to control computer graphics.
Students will use binary numbers to perform basic counting and decoding operations.
Students will encode their names in a binary system.
Students will create moving sculptures with WeDo Robotics system that use rotational motion and gears.
