This workshop will place place in the College of Computing Building in room 345 from 9:30AM - 4:00PM. (Directions to the College of Computing Building).
Site with lots of building plans for LEGO NXT http://nxtprograms.com/index1.html (but requires retail kit or education kit with resource kit).
Books for teachers with lesson plans and building instructions http://domabotics.com/books
Teachers will program a Pleo dinosaur robot and then build LEGO NXT robots and program them using drag-and-drop programming (NXT-G). Some teachers can work on LEGO TETRIX robots if they prefer. The workshop will explain how to cover introductory computing concepts by programming robots such as: sequential execution, conditional execution, iteration, creating your own methods (my block), and event-driven execution.
Public school middle and high school teachers must register on http://www.ctaern.org for workshop CTAERN3161 (look in new catalog). Everyone must also register at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HBRRZ9L.
This workshop is free for Georgia teachers, and if you live > 30 miles from Georgia Tech we will pay for your hotel for Thursday night (2 teachers per room), Thursday night dinner, and Friday breakfast. If you would prefer a private room you can pay 1/2 the hotel cost. We will cover parking for Georgia teachers who stay at the hotel and reimburse parking for Georgia teachers who do not stay at the hotel. We will pay for lunch for all teachers. - artificial intelligence
Teachers will also know how to:
- build and program a LEGO NXT robot
- program a Pleo robot
- request LEGO NXT robots, Pleo Robots, and PicoCrickets from Georgia Tech through the lending library
