Business Plans (Budgets) for computing summer camps 2011
This page contains some links to sample budgets (see the bottom of this page) from different computing summer camps. At Georgia Tech we have found that we can charge more than the local rate for day-care for elementary and middle school students. But, we found that it is hard to get high school students to pay very much (unless it is a sports camp). We recommend making scholarship students pay at least some amount as they tend not to show up if it is free. Georgia Tech also charges a non-refundable fee of $20.00 per application.
Things to consider:
- How many students must you have to not lose any money? If you don't reach this number will you cancel the camp?
- How much will you pay the camp leader and assistants?
- How many students will you have per assistant? We recommend at least a 1 to 10 ratio. You might want a lower ratio for younger kids.
- Will you need to pay a fee for facilities (room and computers)?
- Will you need to pay a fee for internet use?
- Will you need to pay a fee for recreation?
- How much will you need for materials and supplies (nametags, CDs, paper, flyers, batteries, spare parts, pens, pencils, etc)?
- Do you provide snacks and lunch for the students?
- Will you have t-shirts for the summer camp? They range from $5.00 to $20.
- Do you need liablity insurance?
- Do you have administrative costs?
- Will you allow parents to pay via credit card? If so you will lose 2%-3% of the camp fee in credit card charges.
- Do you need to pay for parking for the camp leader and assistants?
- Will you offer a discount for more than one child from the same family?
- Will you refund the deposit and if so up to how long before the camp starts?
