The Institute for Computing Education will offer a 4 day Beginning Programming in Java workshop June 23-26, 2008. This workshop will help you teach Georgia's new Beginning Programming course (see http://www.georgiastandards.org/career.aspx?PageReq=PhaseI).

We will teach programming concepts by creating 3D movies and games in Alice and by manipulating media using Media Computation. We will cover Java syntax, iteration, conditionals and methods. We will also introduce object-oriented principles. The workshop will use a variety of activities to help you understand these concepts: lecture, role-playing, kinesthetic activities, and programming assignments.

If you have no previous experience in programming you must take the Computing in the Modern World June 17-20th 2008
before taking this workshop!

The workshops will be held at the Georgia Institute for Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. You must attend all 4 days in order to receive 3 PLUs. The hours are from 8:30am - 4:00pm each day (with at least 1 hour of homework each evening). There is a $160 fee for this workshop for Georgia teachers. Out of state teachers will pay $425.00. Due to a NSF grant we will be able to cover hotel, parking, and food for Georgia teachers who live greater than 30 miles from Georgia Tech. Teachers will be staying at the Regency Suites hotel and their site address is http://www.regencysuites.com/. Guests will be staying two teachers to a room unless s/he wishes to pay the addtional cost for a private room which is $64.50/night. We will also cover lunch for all teachers. Preference is given to teachers who are teaching Beginning Programming in the Fall of 2008.
