Recent News
- November 2016: I gave the 2016 Distinguished Bradley Lecture at
Virginia Tech University, titled "Preparing for a Post Moore's
Law World", and it was a fantastic visit, especially seeing my
former PhD student Prof. Leyla Nazhandali!
- June 2016: Our paper "A2:
Analog Malicious Hardware" won the Distinguished Paper
Award at the 2016 IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy!
The paper was also nominated for a 2016 Pwnie Award, in the category
of "Most Innovative Research".
- May 2016: Cory Doctorow (I'm a fan!) wrote an article on my
recent A2 analog malicious circuit work,
Undetectable proof-of-concept chip poisoning uses analog circuits to
escalate privilege, in BoingBoing.
- May 2016: Misiker Aga and Salessawi Ferede Yitbarek won a C-FAR
Best Student Demo Runner-Up Award, for the demo "Cold Boot
Attacks on the DDR3 Memory Scrambler".
- February 2015: My PhD student Bill Arthur's paper "Getting
in Control of Your Control Flow with Control-Data Isolation",
which develops a powerful technique to stop code injection security
attacks, appeared in CGO-2015, congratulations Bill!
- February 2015: I participated (with 36 other UM faculty and
students) in the EM-PACE workshop in Ethiopia, a two day workshop to
foster collaborations between University of Michigan and
universities in Ethiopia (e.g., AAiT, AAU). The event was a
great success with many new initiatives and collaborations
developed. Two articles on the event are online:

- November 2014: The
C-FAR center
(which I am the director of) completed its second year of operation,
capped off by a two day meeting in Ann Arbor, where faculty, student
and sponsors met to collaborate and discuss center research.

- January 2013: I am director of a new computer architecture
center, called the
Center for
Future Architectures Research (C-FAR). The center is
exploring techniques to continue scaling the performance, power and
cost of computing into the 2020-2030 era. Here are two articles that
describe the center:

- December 2012: A new textbook I co-authored with Andrew
Tanenbaum has hit the shelves! It is
Structured Computer Architecture, 6th Ed..

- September 2012: I recent returned from my sabbatical where I was
teaching in Ethiopia. It was an amazing experience, you can
