DeviceNet Testing Checklist

When you believe that your device is ready for DeviceNet testing at the University of Michigan, please review the following checklist.

Some policies to keep in mind:

• All devices must use a standard DeviceNet connector (with gold pins), as described in the DeviceNet Specification.
• For family approval, two representative devices must pass the complete Conformance Test, and all physical layer variants must pass at least the Interoperability and Physical Layer Tests.  The vendor must submit a complete list of family members PRIOR to the tests.
• All Master devices must implement an interoperability program through a PLC or similar application, as described in the test procedures.
• No hardware and/or software can be installed on the lab's PCs. Vendors must bring their own PC.

Procedure for getting your device tested:

• Review the lab's DeviceNet Testing Procedure; and try to pre-test your device as much as possible.
• Submit a Testing Order Form to the lab - COMING SOON!
• Check the Lab Schedule on this website and reserve a day for testing.
• Ship your device or come to the lab!

Bring/Send to Lab:

• Device(s) to be tested
• Test Software Configuration file(s)
• EDS file(s)
• All necessary connectors and cables
• If a representative is coming to the lab, you may bring any development tools.  If we find an error, you can try to fix it.
• A PC, if needed. You may not install any hardware/software on lab PCs
• A UPS or FedEx account number for return shipping

Common Errors to check for:

• Correct CAN timing parameters & sampling point
• Correct LED behavior
• A minimum operating voltage of less than 11V
• Clean CAN signals - no ringing, spikes, or crazy sinusoidal waves
• For auxilliary powered devices, the power-up sequence between network power and auxilliary power should work both ways
