NOTES ON TERM PROJECTS Projects should be carried out in teams of two. Single person teams are discouraged, but acceptable, if the project is your dissertation project. Teams of three or more are strongly discouraged. The project can be any of the following types: 1. Design/Implementation 2. Measurement, analysis, and simulation The goal of the project is to experiment with new research ideas and solutions. You should aim for a conference quality work. Project Proposal. You will need to write a one page project proposal that clearly states: 0. Title, group members, and if you're working others outside 582. 1. The problem you are solving. Be clear. 2. The motivation for this problem, and why it is important. Be specific. 3. The solution you propose and why it is novel. 4. The research plan, including milestones and dates 5. Any resources you need that you don't have access to. Project Feedback. The class will provide written feedback on the project via HotCRP and verbal feedback during a project presentation meeting. Feel free to use office hours to discuss and develop your project ideas further. Project Report. The project report should not exceed 10 pages of double-column text. The font size should be at least 11pt and face should be Times. Project Status. You will give a short status update on the project in the weeks following winter break. The status update will be followed by some short questions. Project Presentation. We will hold a poster session, likely just before or perhaps during finals week, where you will present your research findings.
