Solution of Operational Profiles
for Multiuser Systems
J. F. Meyer
Abstract
A solution method for multiuser operational profiles is developed by
exploiting established theory concerning reversible Markov processes.
Single-module systems are considered first, where, with a slight
extension, we show that transient users can be accommodated.
Necessary and sufficient conditions for a reversible $n$-user profile
are then established in terms of ``slowdown factors'' associated with
multiple use. The results are likewise applicable to multimodule
systems, for if the per-module profiles are reversible then the
overall operational profile admits to a product-form solution.
