Model-Based Evaluation of System Resilience
John F. Meyer
Abstract
The notion of system resilience is receiving increased attention in domains ranging from
safety-critical applications to ubiquitous computing.
After reviewing how resilience has been defined
in various contexts, we focus on a dependabilitybased de?nition and a performability-based extension
thereof. Modeling problems posed by the quantitative
evaluation of system resilience are then discussed,
along with some suggestions as to how they might be
solved.
