Biography
Tzeno Galchev earned B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and in Computer Engineering with honors from the University of Michigan in 2004 where he was a James B. Angell Scholar and an invited member of Eta Kappa Nu. Dr. Galchev completed his M.S. in 2006 and Ph.D. in 2010 both in Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He worked at the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Engineering Research Center for Wireless Integrated Microsystems (WIMS) as a reserach assistant and as a post-doctoral scholar until 2011. Dr. Galchev was the sole recipient of the University of Michigan Excellence in Engineering Fellowship in 2006, support for which was provided by Sandia National Laboratories. Dr. Galchev served as Vice-President (2006-2007) and President (2007-2009) of the WIMS Student Leadership Council. In 2008 Dr. Galchev was nominated for the John Atanasoff award and was one of two finalists awarded by the president of Bulgaria for their contributions to the information society. The John Atanasoff award is given to young scientists under the age of thirty-six for significant contributions in the development of information technologies. Dr. Galchev and his colleagues have been awarded 1st place at 4 (and been finalists in 7 other) university-wide, national and international business plan competitions, for a plan to commercialize his energy scavenging research. Throughout his time at Michigan, Dr. Galchev has mentored and supervised a number of graduate and undergraduate students including assisting in the instruction of a graduate course in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He was awarded the WIMS Outstanding Student Leadership Award in 2009. In 2011 Dr. Galchev received an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and is currently a post doctoral fellow at the University of Freiburg's Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK) in Germany.
