How to extract the disk image file from the download

Using Raspberry Pi/Raspberry Pi OS

The Raspberry Pi Archiver cannot extract large files. I have not tried to flash the image onto a Micro SD card using my Raspberry Pi, but I extracted the image using the procedure below and verified the image against the original.

Install the p7zip command line utility
- Using Add / Remove Software, Install the p7zip and p7zip-full packages.

- Save it in a directory on a drive that has 44 GB free space. You could use separate drives if you add the full path to the file names in the command below.
- Open a terminal window and change to the directory that contains the download.
- Enter this command at the terminal prompt:
```
7z x SDRplay_RPi_1-24-2021_GR3.8.zip
```
Flash the image onto a 32 GB or larger Micro SD card. You can use Raspberry Pi Imager. I have not actually flashed an image with this, but this should be how to do it.
```
sudo apt install rpi-imager
```
- Insert a 32 GB or larger Micro SD card into a USB Micro SD card reader and insert it into a USB port on your Raspberry Pi. It must be one that can also write.
- In the applications menu/Acessories open Imager.
- Click CHOOSE OS.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Operating System list.
- Select Use Custom.
- Select the image file that you want to flash onto the Micro SD Card. It offers to choose, among other things, .zip and .img files. If it can unzip this on the fly, you won't have to extract the image as in the previous steps. I haven't tried it. Otherwise choose the .img file.
- Under SD Card, click CHOOSE SD CARD. Be careful not to choose any USB devices such as a hard drive or thumb drive!
- Click Write.

Using Windows

Install an archive utility that can unzip large files. I used 7zip.
Install a SD card flash utility such as Raspberry Pi Imager or balenaEtcher, which is what I use.
Insert a 32 GB or larger Micro SD card into a Micro SD card reader on your Windows computer. It must be one that can also write.
Although balenaEtcher can open zip files, I have not tried that option. Be sure to have it verify the Micro SD card after it flashes it.

Software that is installed on the disk image

You need to put the image on a 32GB or larger Micro SD card.
