Discourse and Logical Form

Abstract
(This abstract is provisional, and was not written by the authors.)

This paper addresses the issue of valid inference from multisentential texts. Because such inferences often depend on contextual factors that are internal to the text that form the premises, issues having to do with logical form cannot be separated from issues having to do with context. The paper introduces an account of logical form that draws on elements of attention and coherence theories of discourse, and that permits a logical treatment of a wide variety of inferences.
