Agenda (Alice, LEGO NXT, and Media Computation in Python June 16-20 2008)
Monday
9:00am Introductions and pre surveys
9:15am Do CS Unplugged Activity
9:30am Start building the robot base
10:30am Start with the robot educator common palette challenges 1-7 and then program the robot to get through courses outlined in blue painters tape on the floor. Advanced groups can program the robot to follow a black line (challenges 16 and 17).
12-1pm Lunch break and take pictures of each students in the green screen room
1:00pm Watch a movie from RoboCup Jr. dance competition and rescue
1:30pm Challenge the kids to create a 20 second dance. Do challenges 8 and 9 to see how to create a loop and a MyBlock. The dance should have loops and MyBlocks in it. Use the MyBlock to name a series of moves and then reuse the MyBlock in the dance. Advanced groups can build their own robot or build the dog from the CMU Eng II curriculum.

Tuesday
9:00am Do CS Unplugged Activity
9:15am Answer questions from the previous day and review computing concepts such as loops and methods (my blocks)
9:45am Do a short introduction to Alice (how to create and position objects and invoke methods) and challenge the kids to create a short movie.

12:30 Talk about storyboarding and how to create methods in Alice. Have the students create a longer story or movie in Alice with at least one method in it. MoreAlice.ppt
2:45pm Ask for questions from the day
Wed
9:00am Show movie on CS careers (Un of Wash pathways movie)
9:15am Answer questions from previous day and review computing concepts like top-down design (storyboarding)
9:45am Do a introduction to Media Computation in Python. Show how to code simple picture methods like reduce red and negate. Walk through mirroring horizontal. Show the kids how to code chromakey and then have them do it with their pictures from the green screen room.
12-12:30pm lunch break
12:30pm Show the students how to create a simple image collage and challenge them to create one
