The workshop will take place in the Klaus Advanced Computing Building, Room 2456. It is for current 4th-6th grade students. This workshop will be $30 per person. The workshop runs from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Directions to the Klaus Building can be found here: http://coweb.cc.gatech.edu/ice-gt/564. Please park in the State Street Parking lot which is free on weekends.

Before the students arrive you should sign them into the laptops. When they enter the room they will be ready to take the Pre survey.

Materials: Laptops, mice and chargers (1 for every 2 students), LEGO NXT's, tape, extensions cords (2) and surge protectors. One Android device for every 2 students pre-loaded with NXT Remote App. (App will be provided by Mr. Michaud)

Description

Telepresence Robotics - broadcast yourself! In this workshop students will explore how to create robotic devices that react to commands broadcasted from an Andriod Phone. Students will design and build a robot that reacts to remote commands to complete a task. Telepresence represents a growing field in robotics where the elements of remote control, mechanics, and video broadcasting combine to allow the user to explore and interact in distant environments via a remote device.

Schedule

12:50 to 1:05 Login to computers. Do Pre-workshop survey

1:05 to 1:20: Demonstration of Telepresence Robot and mission description. Tour of the Mindstorms NXT Robotics Kit

1:20 to 1:40: Wire three motors to the NXT-G brick. Connect Android phone and Bluetooth. Practice with the App controlling the A, B, and C Motors

1:40 to 2:45: Students design and Build Robot to Complete the Mission

2:45 to 3:30: Students practice Mission with Robots and remote control

3:30 to 3:40: Post Workshop Survey

3:40 to 3:50: Demonstrate Robots for Parents and Family

3:50 to 4:00: Clean up Robotics Kits and Laptops
