Introduction to Robots and Robotic Competitions - Fall 2011

Georiga Tech's Institute for Computing Education and Spelman College are co-hosting a "Introduction to Robots and Robotic Competitions" event on Saturday October 1st from 1pm - 4pm. This event is for Georgia Tech and Spelman Alums, Staff, and Faculty only. Adults are welcome to bring up to 3 children with them. The cost is $25 per child.

There will be hands-on activites with LEGO WeDo kits (ages 7 and up) and LEGO NXT kits (ages 8 and up). There will be a demonstration of LEGO Tetrix robots. There will also be information about and videos of robotic competitions.

LEGO WeDo robots are intended for ages 7 and up. They come with several project ideas such as a top spinner, a hungry alligator, a soccer ball kicked, a soccer goalie and more. They can be used with Scratch which is free software from MIT. See http://scratch.mit.edu for more information about Scratch and to download it. We use these robots in our computing summer camps and weekend workshops with youth-serving organizations.

LEGO NXT robots are intended for ages 8 and up. There are many project ideas for LEGO NXT robots at http://nxtprograms.com/projects1.html. We use these robots in our computing summer camps and weekend workshops with youth-serving organizations.

Directions to the Klaus Advanced Computing Building. You can park at the visitor lot at the end of State Street and Ferst Drive. This parking lot is free on weekends.
