Introduction to Scratch and how to do a simple 2d animation

Explain that Scratch is free software from MIT. Students can download it from http://scratch.mit.edu. Exlain that it comes with many example projects and the web site has a ton more projects that you can even download and modify. You can share your Scratch project on the website by creating a free user account (parents must approve for 13 years old).

There are lots of great materials on the website for learning Scratch. See http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Support for how to get started, videos, cards, and much more.

Here is a video tutorial for doing a simle animation with a background image change and playing a music loop: 2D-animation.mp4
There is a similar video tutorial at http://scratched.media.mit.edu/resources/scratch-video-tutorials
