Scratch Projects - June 7-11, 2010
Monday 9am - 3pm
9:00am Introductions and pre surveys
9:15am Do a CS Unplugged Activity - binary numbers (http://csunplugged.com/index.php/binary-numbers.html) and/or some logic puzzles (http://www.puzzles.com/projects/LogicProblems.html) like How many unique squares are there in a 4 x 4 grid?
10:00am Students work in pairs with the PicoCrickets doing the musical pickle and reaction game (http://picocricket.com/project-ideas.html). If they finish early add another of the placement activities.
12-1pm Lunch break and greenscreen pictures
1:00pm Students do the birthday cake and kinetic sculpture. If they finish with these introduce the motion modules (http://picocricket.com/motion.html). Maybe have them try to hit a target
with the catapult.
2:45pm Ask for questions from the day
Tuesday
9:00am Do CS Unplugged Activity - error detection and correction card trick (see http://csunplugged.com/index.php/error-detection.html)
9:15am Answer questions from the previous day and review computing concepts such as loops and conditionals
9:45am Do the Rock, Paper, and Scissors game (Rock, Paper, Scissors.pdf)
Ask the kids to create their own game.
12-12:30 lunch break
12:30 Challenge the kids to create a school or park with the pico crickets.
2:45pm Ask for questions from the day
Wednesday
9:00am Do CS Unplugged Activity
9:15am Answer questions from the previous day
9:45am Introduce Scratch (show ScratchIntro.mp4) and show how to create a simple 2D interactive animation (Projects-Names-3 Name Surprise, 7 Tamara) Show how to use the paint tools or import a costume for a sprite.
Ask the kids to create a 2D interactive animation with the letters of their names. If they finish this show them the dance one from 2006 dance.sb and
challenge them to create a 30 second dance with music.
11:30pm Show off the kids animations
12:00 break for lunch

Thursday
9:00am Do CS Unplugged Activity
9:15am Answer questions from the previous day
9:45am Show how to create a simple 2D game in Scratch SimpleGame-BabyCatch.ppt
12:00-12:30 lunch break
12:30 Kids create their own 2D game in Scratch
2:45 Ask for questions
Friday
9:00am Do CS Unplugged Activity
9:15am Answer quesitons from previous day
9:45am Work on items for parent show
12-12:30pm lunch break
12:30pm Watch iCompute video
1:00pm Do post surveys
1:30pm Do group picture
2:00pm Do parent show - have ACM career brochures and Image your future in computing brochures.
