The Institute for Computing Education (ICE) is proud to host an Alice workshop on Saturday, Jan 23rd, 2010 from 8:00am - 5:00pm at GA Tech. Teachers must attend the entire workshop and do 2 hours of additional work on an Alice world to get 1 PLU. All teachers must register at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DZRX3SV. Georgia public school teachers must also register at http://www.ctaern.org for workshop CTAERN2865. This workshop will take place in room 1456 of the Klaus Advanced Computing Building (see Directions to the Klaus Advanced Computing Building).

Teachers will build 3D animations and games in Alice 2.2. Each teacher will receive a CD with all materials including slides, exercises, lesson plans, and grading rubrics. This material can be used in Technology, Computing in the Modern World, Beginning Programming, or AP CS A.

Teachers will learn about some of the more advanced features of Alice including how to create a function, how to create a simple game in Alice (using variables, conditionals, loops, and events). Teachers will also learn how to teach recursion in Alice. Part of the workshop will be set aside to answer questions teachers have about how to do things in Alice.

Teachers should have some experience in Alice before coming to this workshop! They should have at least completed the Alice tutorials. We will be offering some webinars on Thursdays at 4:00pm on Alice before the workshop.

This workshop is free for Georgia teachers, and if you live > 30 miles from Georgia Tech we will pay for your hotel for Friday night (2 teachers per room), Friday night dinner, and Sat breakfast. If you would prefer a private room you can pay 1/2 the hotel cost. We will cover parking for Georgia teachers who stay at the hotel and reimburse parking for Georgia teachers who do not stay at the hotel. We will pay for lunch for all teachers. Space is limited to 30.

Please bring a laptop if you have one, or notify us if you need to borrow a laptop.
