High School Student Program
We are using some of our National Science Foundation Broadening Participation in Computing Grant to train high school students in computing and to use them as assistant for some of our weekend and afterschool computing workshops. We will be training them on Sundays from 1pm - 5pm (followed by a free dinner). Some of them will be working the following Saturday for our Girl Scout Workshops. Some will be helping with afterschool programs at their local middle schools or high schools. Some will be developing materials for us to use in future workshops.
Students will be paid $8.00 a hour. They will spend about 10 hours total on this program each week. About 5 hours a week will be spent in training. Students will be expected to also work an additional 5 hours each week. Some students will assist at our Girl Scout workshops (see http://coweb.cc.gatech.edu/ice-gt/944). Some students will help with computing afterschool programs at her/his local middle school or in her/his local area. Some students will develop materials for us that we can use in future computing workshops. We reserve the right to remove students from the program if they are not fully participating. We do understand that students might not be able to participate every week, but we expect students to participate during most weeks and notify us in a timely manner if they can not participate. Training will be held in room 308 of the College of Computing Building.
