The Institute for Computing Education (ICE) is proud to host an Alice workshop on Saturday, Nov 21st 2009 from 8:30am - 3:30pm at Georgia Tech. Teachers must attend the entire workshop and do 4 hours of additional work to get 1 PLU. All teachers must register at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=on7bNdHnS56naZM43SFmZg_3d_3d. Georgia public school teachers must also register at http://www.ctaern.org for workshop CTAERN2748. This workshop will take place in the Klaus Advanced Computing Building, room 1456 (see Directions to the Klaus Advanced Computing Building).

Teachers will build 3D movies (animations) using drag-and-drop programming in Alice which is free software from CMU (see http://www.alice.org). The workshop will explain how to cover introductory computing concepts such as: class, object, method, parameter, function, variable, iteration (looping), conditional execution, and event-driven execution using Alice. Each teacher will receive a CD with all materials including slides, exercises, lesson plans, and grading rubrics. This material can be used in Technology, Computing in the Modern World, Beginning Programming, or AP CS A. This workshop will cover the recent developments in Alice. We will discuss the differences between Alice 2.0, 2.2, Storytelling Alice, and 3.0. Teachers will create 3d animations in Alice while learning about computing concepts. They will learn how to make a movie using Alice 2.2.

This workshop is free for Georgia teachers, and if you live > 30 miles from Georgia Tech we will pay for your hotel for Friday night (2 teachers per room), Friday night dinner, and Sat breakfast. If you would prefer a private room you can pay 1/2 the hotel cost. We will cover parking for Georgia teachers who stay at the hotel and reimburse parking for Georgia teachers who do not stay at the hotel. We will pay for lunch for all teachers. Space is limited to 30.

Please bring a laptop if you have one, or notify us if you need to borrow a laptop.
