This workshop will place place in the College of Computing Building in room 345 from 9:30AM - 4:00PM. (Directions to the College of Computing Building).

Teachers will program a Pleo dinosaur robot and then build LEGO NXT robots and program them using drag-and-drop programming (NXT-G). Some teachers can work on LEGO TETRIX robots if they prefer. The workshop will explain how to cover introductory computing concepts by programming robots such as: sequential execution, conditional execution, iteration, creating your own methods (my block), and event-driven execution.


Public school middle and high school teachers must register on http://www.ctaern.org for workshop CTAERN3161 (look in new catalog). Everyone must also register at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HBRRZ9L.

This workshop is free for Georgia teachers, and if you live > 30 miles from Georgia Tech we will pay for your hotel for Thursday night (2 teachers per room), Thursday night dinner, and Friday breakfast. If you would prefer a private room you can pay 1/2 the hotel cost. We will cover parking for Georgia teachers who stay at the hotel and reimburse parking for Georgia teachers who do not stay at the hotel. We will pay for lunch for all teachers. We can also reimburse for substitutes for Georgia teachers. Space is limited to 30.

Please bring a laptop if you have one, or notify us if you need to borrow a laptop.

Out-of-state teachers pay $140. Checks for $140.00 should be made out to Georgia Institute of Technology and sent to:

12:00pm - 12:30pm lunch
12:30pm - 1:00pm Program the LEGO robot to go through courses outlined on the floor (or if you built the arm do that challenge instead)
1:00pm - 2:00pm Program the robot to do a 30 second dance. (teachers with experience can build the puppy http://nxtprograms.com/puppy/index.html)

2:00pm - 3:00pm Program the robot to follow a black line
3:00pm - 3:45pm Discuss lending library, Oher robot challenges, Robot Competitions, Mayan Adventure Book and Challenges
3:45pm - 4:00pm post surveys

Teachers must participate in two additional webinars and do two hours of homework to earn 1 PLU. The webinars will be Wed March 23, and 30th from 4pm - 5pm. The two hours of extra work must be finished by March 30th.
