We will do an introduction to Object-Oriented Programming with Alice, Greenfoot, and Media Computation on Feb 9th, 2011. The workshop will start at 8:00am and end at 3:00pm. Lunch is provided for all attendees.

We will start by introducting the notions of objects and classes in Alice. We will create a project using a list in Alice in order to get several objects of the same type to perform the same action one at a time or all together. Alice is free software from CMU that allows using to do drag-and-drop programming to create 3D movies and games. See http://www.alice.org for more information.

Then we will introduce Greenfoot by making a cat dance and eat pizza. We will modify a balloon game to add a killer balloon. We will introduce Media Computation in Greenfoot by writing some simple methods to modify images. Greenfoot is free software that allows you to create 2D animations or games in Java. See http://www.greenfoot.org for more information.

Finally, we will do chromakey on our Alice movie frames using Media Computation in Java. Media Computation is an approach to teaching computing concepts by having students write programs that manipulate media: pictures, sounds, movies, and text. See http://coweb.cc.gatech.edu/mediaComp-teach for more information.

We are charging $140 per teacher for this workshop. Checks should be made payable to Georgia Institute of Technology. Please send payments to:
