Question: How would we go about making the Checkout class? I'm not really sure where to start.

The checkout class will represent a checkout at at grocery store. It should have a queue (which is the actual checkout line) and a boolean (is this checkout open?) at the very least. Currently, the supermarket simulation only has one queue for the checkout. Essentially, you will want to create multiple (say six) instances of the checkout class (what can you use to store these instances?), where only one is open initially. Student1086

Question: I'm lost at making the checkout class... does it have to extend anything? Is it written in a similar form of "Corn" class?

It does not have to extend anything. It will basically contain a queue and anything else you think you might need. Dawn Finney
It should not extend anything. Using some of the same logic from the Corn class is good, but don't go overboard. In the end, just try to understand what each class is doing (or should be doing), and try to program from there (Java is an object oriented language after all). Student1086

Question: How come in the processCheckout method within the Model.java class, they treat checkoutREMOVEDe as a priority queue instead of a linked list? How should we go about altering this method to add more queues?

It really depends on how you approached the problem. Don't worry about how they seemingly treat checkoutREMOVEDe as a priority queue...essentially poll is just removing and returning the front of the list. You can modify this method to (1) poll from all open checkoutREMOVEDes or (2) poll from a specific checkoutREMOVEDe, where processCheckout is called on all open lines when appropriate. In the end, this assignment is rather difficult, so don't worry too much if you don't completely finish it. We will be giving partial credit for legitimate attempts. Student1086
