Things I'm getting asked about CS1316

Is this like CS1315, with big lectures on Monday and Friday and breakouts in-between?

What's the "extra" Monday session?

It is for an optional recitation led by TAs, if the class gets large enough to warrant that. (Given the totally new nature of the course, we don't know what demand to expect for the course, so we prepared for 100 but probably won't get that large.)

Is CS1316 a pre-req for CS1331?

Yup – after completing CS1316, you can go on to CS1331...and a Computer Science minor, or a Computational Media or Computer Science major, or whatever!

I'm getting an error about having version 48 but expecting version 49, or something like that, when I compile in DrJava. What's going on?

You probably have two different versions of Java on your machine – maybe JRE of one verison and JDK of another. (This is unlikely to happen on Macintoshes, but happens fairly often on Windows.) Go entirely with one version. So, for example, download the 5.0 JRE from http://www.java.com, then download jdk 5.0 from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp.
