How to get more media into browser GP

Several the upload capabilities are currently only possible by dropping files onto the GP browser window, so they are not as "discoverable" as they could be. A notable exception is importing sounds and images, which can be done by clicking the import button in the "Sounds" or "Images" tab. This causes an "import file" button to appear; clicking that brings up a file dialog that you can use to select a media file to import. (I wish we could eliminate that intermediate step, but I haven't found a way to do that without running into browser security mechanisms.)

Once you know the trick, dragging files onto the browser is a quick way to import things. How the dropped file is processed depends on it's extension:

  • .png, .jpg - import into the images tab
  • .wav - import into the sounds tab
  • .gpp - open as a new project, after asking the user if it's okay to discard the current project
  • .gp - import an extension
