Matthew Burgess

I am a PhD candidate in the Computer Science department at the University of Michigan. My dissertation research focuses on new applications of data science methods to problems in network, web, and text mining. Most recently I have been working on devoloping methods to identify patterns of text re-use between model legislation (written by lobbyists) and state legislation.

I was a 2015 Data Science For Social Good fellow at the University of Chicago where I helped build the Legislation Influence Detector. In the summer of 2013 I was a data science intern at LinkedIn.
