To get to the data in foo.tar.Z, type "uncompress foo.bar.Z" and then "tar -xvf foo.tar" on a Unix system. On a windows system there are free packages out there that will also work, such as "7-Zip." In most cases, ASCII and Matlab versions are available. To load into Matlab use either "dlmread" (ASCII) or "load" (.mat).

• Larry Marple's Sunspot Data
  International monthly average sunspot numbers. The numbers are not unique, but represent the average of many subjective observers' estimates using the over 200 year old method of estimating the sunspot numbers. Yearly numbers prior to 1749 are guesses and are given for historical reasons. See pp. 13-16 of his text.
• Lee Potter's Mystery Utterance
  Test your recognition skill on this synthetic mystery vowel.
• A-E-I-O-U (JooSeuk)
  English vowels in succession sampled at 8kHz.
• Mystery Tone

• Emdal Pulsar Data
  Array processing in the ancient Mayan civilization. As seen in National Geographic. Signal consists of seven sinusoids embedded in AR(1) noise (with pole at z=0.8). The SNR is approximately 6dB.
• Gas Turbine (Nandita)
  Accelerometer data from several revolutions of this large rotating machine. Three signals corresponding to three different operating speeds: 15, 49, and 73 Hz.
• Mumps Data
  Number of mumps cases reported monthly in California and Massachusetts from 1968-1988. Taken from StatLib - Disease Data, 1991 Exposition.
• Russian River Flow Rates
  Mean daily flow rate (in cubic ft/sec) of the Russian River near Healdsburg, CA, from 1 November 1939 to 31 October 1993. Files for each 1 February, 1 May, 1 August, and 1 November are provided, as well as the entire data set and a couple of C-language widgets for manipulating it. This data is from the U.S. Geological Survey's Water Resources page; plenty more data is available there.
• Basketball Season Scores
  Game-to-game Basketball scores for two NBA teams in the 1995-96 season up to 7 February 1996. Data for the Chicago Bulls and the Houston Rockets. First column of each data matrix holds the team score; second column holds the opponent's score.
• Dow Jones Industrial Average
  Weekly closing prices of the DJIA over the 94-year period 1897-1990.
• US Gross Domestic Product
  GDP = Total value of goods and services produced annually in the USA. Data from 1959 through 1994 in billions of US$.
• Bat Chirp
  Echolocation chirp of the Large Brown Bat, Eptesicus Fuscus.
• Internet Traffic
  Raw and processed data from various computer networks.
• National Snow and Ice Data Center
