Grade Assignment in EECS 658

HOW GRADES WILL BE ASSIGNED IN EECS 658

  1. I will compute the weighted sum of the exam, problem set, and project scores.
    For the relative weightings, see the introductory handout.
  2. I will rank-order the weighted sums from largest to smallest.
  3. I will look for GAPS in the rank-ordered sums and used them as grade boundaries.
  4. I assign grades to each cluster of rank-ordered scores between the gaps.
This ensures no one will be only a few points from getting a higher grade.
NOTE: I have no preconceptions on how many "A"s and "A-"s and "B+"s to give.
600-level courses are generally very lenient on grading.
I hope you all will allow me to be lenient!
